Episode #5: Joy Saudargas MA, RD, LDN
In this episode Drs. Joanna & Ilan sit down with Joy Saudargas, a Registered Dietitian and owner of The Joy of Nutrition LLC . Joy shares her story of how she found herself transitioning from a career as a teacher to becoming a registered dietitian and how she’s incorporated her educational background and skills into working with her clients in her practice.
Joy shares her knowledge and experience on various topics like how our family can influence our diet habits, tips for healthy snacking including her unique and wonderful approach of “snobby snacking”, rethinking what our culture considers “good” vs “bad” foods and how to navigate the overwhelming number of options available to us, and provides us with her thoughts on why diet culture fails to provide long lasting results.
Joy also dives into topics including the information she gathers when she begins working with her clients, the importance of proper hydration, signs and symptoms of dehydration, tips for building better habits to overcome chronic dehydration, and the role of hydration as it relates to things like chronic fatigue, cravings, and an overall sense of well-being.
Joy shares some helpful information about how the general public can seek out help from a dietitian and which qualifications to look for, as well as highlighting the fact that dietitians are easily accessible (and arguably underutilized) in the US.
One thing you’ll notice as you listen is Joy’s ability to understand and recognize how unique each and every individual is and tailor her recommendations to improve their health and ensure that they still find joy in their relationship with food. We hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it!
