Episode #3: Dr. Michael Risher
In this episode Dr. Ilan Green interviews our guest, Dr. Michael Risher, on his experience working with NFL stars (including multiple big names on his hometown team the Chicago Bears) helping to keep them healthy and playing at their best. Dr. Risher shares his knowledge and helps to provide a context for approaching rehab for professional and amateur athletes alike. He shares helpful information on topics including understanding load management for athletes, understanding and applying bio-tensegrity concepts, methods to evaluate musculoskeletal reactivity and response, recognizing and utilizing fascial planes and patterns to improve movement resiliency, considerations regarding injury rehab for returning to play, and even provides a mind-blowing case study involving long chain fascial planes!
Not to mention, Dr. Risher hints at a project he's been working on involving "Fascial Neurology", which is a rehab/prehab program focused on fascial training for athletes of all levels.
Guest Bio:
Dr. Michael Risher is a Sports Chiropractor and owner of Rehab Lab Chicago. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago with a passion for sports. He played football through high school and into college where he was a Division 3 All-American defensive back at Wheaton College as a senior. There, he completed his bachelors degree in Applied Health Science.
Upon graduating in 2015, he accomplished his lifelong dream of riding his bicycle from San Francisco to Boston. From then on, the idea of overcoming obstacles became engrained in his life.
Before beginning his graduate studies, he worked as a sports performance coach in Highland Park where he worked with athletes of all ages. Then, in 2016 he moved to San Jose, California where he completed his Doctorate of Chiropractic while earning clinical excellence honors.
Now he provides care for a wide range of individuals including over 40 professional athletes across various sports. Most notably, he works with multiple active NFL players on the Chicago Bears helping them to prevent injury and optimize performance.
