We Know Back Pain Because We’ve Lived It

If you’re struggling with back pain, you’re not alone. We know exactly how frustrating and limiting it can be—because we’ve been there ourselves.

Many of our patients are surprised to learn that we’ve dealt with chronic back pain firsthand. Just because we treat back pain every day doesn’t mean we’re immune to it. In fact, our own experiences with injury and recovery have shaped the way we practice today.

Dr. Green’s Personal Back Pain Journey

“Back in college, I first hurt my lower back playing flag football. What started as a minor issue turned into a recurring problem—sometimes flaring up after lifting weights, sometimes after something as simple as bending down to tie my shoes.

In chiropractic school, I herniated a disc while squatting in the gym. That injury led to months of treatment, but while I found temporary relief, I had no real long-term plan. Every time I tried to return to the gym, I faced constant setbacks.

I followed the advice I was given—rest, core strengthening, and passive treatments—but nothing truly fixed the problem. Instead, I pushed myself too hard with core exercises and ended up with an umbilical hernia. That meant surgery, more frustration, and a growing fear that my body was fragile.

It wasn’t until I got into clinical practice—treating real patients, diving deep into research, attending weekend seminars and conferences, spending thousands of hours in the gym testing and refining ways to stay active without pain, and working 1-on-1 with industry-leading clinicians—that it finally clicked.

For the first time, I truly understood what it takes to not just get out of pain, but to stay out of pain.”

The Missing Link in Traditional Back Pain Treatment

Through this process, I realized that my recurring back pain wasn’t just about the injury itself—it was about how I was moving and training.

Mobility limitations forced my body to compensate, placing excessive stress on my lower back. Over time, that stress accumulated, leading to injury after injury.

While the treatments I received helped relieve pain in the short term, they never addressed how I moved or what I needed to do to safely return to exercise. That missing piece is something we see in so many traditional treatment approaches—and it’s why so many people continue to struggle with back pain despite trying adjustments, massage, injections, and even surgery.

This final phase of care—building strength, improving movement, and learning how to manage back pain long-term—is the most crucial step in true recovery. Yet, it’s often the most overlooked.

What We Wish More People Knew About Back Pain

1️⃣ Long-term back pain resolution comes from learning how to manage it—not just treating flare-ups. If you don’t change how you move and train, the problem will keep coming back.

2️⃣ Traditional treatments (including chiropractic and PT) often focus on short-term relief while missing the root cause. If the underlying movement dysfunction isn’t addressed, back pain will continue to resurface.

3️⃣ We practice the way we do because we’ve been through it ourselves. We’ve made the same mistakes, felt the same frustration, and understand what it truly takes to break the cycle of recurring pain.
